2014 University of Oregon Scholarship Recipients

As part of the Oregon Tuba Association’s mission of encouraging young low brass musicians, the James T. Newell Scholarship is awarded to University of Oregon undergraduate music students.  The 2013-2014 recipients are Scott Van Atta, a sophomore from Myrtle Creek, and Jake Fewx, a sophomore from Sherwood.

Scott Van Atta

Scott Van Atta plays with the  Symphonic Band and the Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble at the University of Oregon, and plays in local community groups that include the Junction City Polka Band, the One More Time Marching Band and Calamity Jazz Band.  His goal is to be the director of a traditional marching band.

 

Jake Fewx

Jake Fewx plays with the Oregon Wind Ensemble, the Oregon Marching Band and the Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble at the University of Oregon, and is also a member of 2BA4 quartet.  His goal is to play tuba professionally in a major military band or symphonic orchestra.  In February 2014, Jake Fewx was the winner of the Eugene Symphony Association’s Young Artists Concerto Competition.
